Accepting UPI Online: Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm for Restaurants

India runs on UPI, and restaurants already have a UPI code taped to the counter. But a static counter QR and an online UPI checkout inside an order are two different things — only one of them knows which order you just paid for. Here is what changes when payment moves inside the ordering flow.

Counter QR vs checkout UPI

With a counter QR, the guest pays first and then someone manually reconciles the notification against the bill — fine for one table, painful at rush. Inside checkout, the payment is tied to the order: the order flips to PAID the moment the money moves, the kitchen sees a paid ticket, and the reconciliation happens by itself. Refunds and disputes also start from a clear record of what was paid for which order.

What guests can pay with

• Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm — the big three UPI apps, one checkout sheet.
• UPI ID entry — any other UPI app via the payment sheet.
• Cards and netbanking — for guests who prefer them.
• Cash — stay enabled if your area still runs on it; guests choose at checkout.

Why paid orders improve the kitchen

A PAID badge on the ticket removes a whole category of service friction: no counting cash at the door, no “payment failed” at handover, no chasing a guest who walked out. For delivery, prepaid orders mean riders never carry float and the doorstep interaction is just the handoff. For dine-in, guests leave when they want — the bill is already settled.

Security and settlement

Payments run through Razorpay, so card and UPI details never touch your servers — there is no payment data to store or leak. Money settles to your own connected account on the gateway’s schedule, and every transaction appears in its dashboard alongside your order history.
