Table QR Ordering: How to Let Guests Order from Their Phone
A setup guide for table QR ordering — how per-table codes work, where orders go, how payment works, and how to brief your staff.
Table QR ordering lets each guest scan a code on their table, browse the full menu and send the order straight to your kitchen — without waiting to flag down staff for a menu or a pen. Done well it shortens service; done carelessly it confuses guests. Here is how the whole system fits together.
How per-table codes work
Every table gets its own QR that encodes its table number. When a guest scans and orders, the ticket arrives tagged with that table — no “which table was this?” phone calls. One code per table is the rule; never share a code between two tables. Cafes and food courts often prefer a single unified code where guests collect by order number instead — both modes come from the same menu.
What happens after the guest checks out
- Dashboard + kitchen display — the order appears live, grouped by course or status as your team moves it along.
- Push alerts — desktop, tablet and phone buzz the moment an order lands.
- WhatsApp alerts — staff groups get the order details without installing anything new.
- Guest tracking — the guest watches their order move from placed to ready on their own phone.
Payments at the table
Offer both paths and let the guest choose: cash at the counter or on delivery, and online UPI — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm — through checkout. Online payment means the order arrives already PAID, which removes the end-of-meal queue and the “we will settle later” IOUs. Tips can be enabled per venue if your service model wants them.
Briefing your staff
The technology is the easy part; the floor routine is what makes it work. Three things your team needs to internalise:
- Guests may order before anyone greets them — check the tablet often.
- Refills and special requests still go through a human; QR handles the food order.
- If a guest struggles, walk them through the first scan — one patient demo teaches the whole table.
Setting it up
Create your account, import the menu, enable ordering, then download the per-table codes from the QR page and print them. Most restaurants run their first QR order the same day. Read the full QR ordering overview or jump straight to signing up free.
